"OH THE SHARK HAS, GERM-FREE SKIN, DEAR..."

Scientists have discovered that the natural dentiles imbedded in sharkskin, because of their particular shape, prevent bacteria and larger parasites from multiplying on the surface of the skin.  The health care industry has now developed artificial plastic sharkskin  for use in hospitals which shuts down even the most antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and the shipbuilding industry is developing a similar material for use on ships to prevent the attachment of barnacles.

The glory of sharkskin does not stop there. Learned guys have discovered that the dentiles actually allow the shark to slip through the water with less resistance than if its skin was absolutely smooth. Do not be surprised if eventually full-body wetsuits with dentiles are worn by Olympic swimmers.
